Watch lists for major individual awards in college football continue to roll out as the season approaches. While Michigan State has yet to have any player make a watch list for their on-field prowess, the Spartans are represented on the radar for a pair of awards, highlighting the quality of their character.
And it's the same player.
Linebacker Jordan Hall on Thursday was named to the watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy, which bills itself as "college football's premier award for community service." Hall was previously nominated for the AFCA Good Works Team, which honors players who "demonstrate excellence in community service, academics and athletics." There's connection between the two awards, too, as 11 players from the Wuerffel Trophy watch list will be selected as semifinalists as well as named to the final ACFA Good Works Team. The Wuerffel Trophy, created 21 years ago by the former Florida quarterback it's named after, will be awarded through voting from a national committee and fans. The winner will be announced Dec. 12 on ESPN's college football awards show.
