We sat down with Lansing Eastern’s Eli Curtis to talk about his goals for the upcoming basketball season, the work he’s putting in and what he wants to accomplish both on the court and in the classroom.
After shooting 42% from three last season, Eli has set his sights even higher, with a goal of reaching around 47% from beyond the arc. Academics are just as important. With his mom and grandmother holding him to a high standard, along with the expectations from his coaches at Eastern, Eli wants to continue improving his GPA after already earning Honor Roll recognition three times.
Eli will also have the opportunity to take the floor alongside his twin brother, Ian, as Eastern looks to put together a strong season, compete for a conference title and make a postseason run.

We sat down with Lansing Sexton’s Zion Mathis to talk about his journey as a student-athlete, his goals for the season and what he wants to accomplish moving forward.
For Zion, this season carries a little more meaning. It’s an opportunity to compete alongside the teammates he’s grown up with and make the most of the time they still have together. We talked about that bond, the work that goes into continuing to improve, and the expectations he has for himself both individually and as part of the Sexton program.
As Zion continues building his own path, his focus is on getting better, competing and creating memories with the group he came up with.
